Cultural Insight |
Becky: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight. |
Shakti: English words like "Hello" and "Hi" don't have an exact equivalent in Hindi, because such informal short greetings don't exist culturally. So these words have been adopted into Indian languages. Similarly, the culture of thanking people casually is new to India. For example, if someone passes you the salt at the table, traditionally we wouldn’t say "thank you" in Hindi for such a casual action, but today people use the English "Thank you" for all such occasions. |
Outro
|
Becky: And that’s all for this lesson. Don’t forget to check out the lesson notes, and we’ll see you in the next lesson! |
Shakti: अलविदा (aLviDaa) |
