Hi everyone! I’m Alisha. |
Welcome to Conversational Phrases! |
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations. |
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask the question, "When is your birthday?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask and answer about the date of an event. |
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases! |
Listen to the dialogue. |
आपका जन्मदिन कब है? (aapakaa jaNmaDiN kab hai?) |
चार मार्च को है। (caar maarc ko hai.) |
Once more with the English translation. |
आपका जन्मदिन कब है? (aapakaa jaNmaDiN kab hai?) |
“When is your birthday?” |
चार मार्च को है। (caar maarc ko hai.) |
“It's on March 4th.” |
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "When is [event]?" |
The pattern is: |
[event] कब है? ([event] kab hai?) |
This Hindi sentence translates as "[event] when is?" But it means “When is [event]?”. |
For example: |
आपका जन्मदिन कब है?, आपका जन्मदिन कब है? (aapakaa jaNmaDiN kab hai?, aapakaa jaNmaDiN kab hai?) |
Now, how do you answer this question? |
चार मार्च को है। (caar maarc ko hai.) |
Listen to it again: |
चार मार्च को है।, चार मार्च को है। (caar maarc ko hai., caar maarc ko hai.) |
This Hindi sentence literally translates as "Fourth March on is." But it means "It's on March 4th.". |
