Survival Phrases lesson 22, Riding The Bus in India. |
The bus is an important means of transportation. In many Indian cities, even in big cities, we use buses more than the trains. Usually, we use buses to cover both long and short distances. However, before starting your trip, you probably need to buy a ticket, or you can buy one inside the bus. Regarding local commuting in India, the fare is not fixed. You may purchase tickets at a ticket window or inside the bus from the conductor. |
Let's imagine you are in Mumbai and you want to go from Andheri to Bandra. How can you get your ticket then? maaf kiijiye , baandraa ke lie ek bas tikat |
maaf kiijiye , baandraa ke lie ek bas tikat |
First, you have maaf kiijiye or "Excuse me," then the name of the place you want to go to, then ke lie or "for," and finally, you have ek bas tikat or "a bus ticket." If you don't use bus, it works with trains and planes, too. |
Let’s break down these words and hear them one more time: maaf kiijiye , baandraa ke lie ek bas tikat. |

What if you want to know how much the ticket is? You could simply use the sentence: bas kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai. |
bas kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai |
Or "How much is a bus ticket?" |
This sentence is so easy and you know the structure, thanks to the previous lessons. Start with bas kaa tikat or "bus ticket," followed by kiTne kaa hai. |
kiTne kaa hai |
Or "how much." |
Let’s break down these words and hear the entire sentence once more: bas kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai. |
bas kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai |
