Survival Phrases Lesson 39
Using the Post Office in India Part 1
My dear listeners, today, we are going to take a trip to the post office.
Now, the "post office" in India is daak Ghar.
daak Ghar
The corporate color is red, and the post box color is red too.
Today, we're going to work on getting your postcards, letters, and packages home. The expression we are going to need to accomplish this is "I'd like to send this to," and the desired destination. For today's lesson, we'll use Italy.
In Hindi, "I would like to send this to Italy" is muJHe yah itlii BHejna hai.
muJHe yah itlii BHejna hai
Let's break it down by syllable: muJHe yah itlii BHejna hai
Now, let's hear it once again: muJHe yah itlii BHejna hai
The first words, muJHe yah mean "I would like."
Let's break them down and hear them one more time: muJHe yah
muJHe yah
Next, we have the name of the country you are sending it to, that is, itlii.
Next is BHejnaa hai, which, in English, is "to send."
Now, altogether, we have muJHe yah italii BHejnaa hai. Literally, this means "I would like to send this to Italy."
Let's look at the other words. We were talking about packages, letters, and postcards, so let's try to send a postcard.
"Postcard" in Hindi is post-kaard.
post-kaard
Let's break it down by syllable: post-kaard
Now, let's hear it again: post-kaard
"I would like to send this postcard to Italy" in Hindi is muJHe yah post-kaard itlii BHejna hai.
muJHe yah post-kaard itlii BHejna hai
Let's break it down by syllable: muJHe yah post-kaard itlii BHejna hai
Now, let's hear it once again: muJHe yah post-kaard itlii BHejna hai
Notice the position of yah post-kaard, which means "this postcard."
Now let's try "letter," which in Hindi is paTra.
paTra
"I would like to send this letter to Italy" in Hindi is muJHe yah paTra itlii BHejna hai.
muJHe yah paTra itlii BHejna hai
As you can notice, we substituted the word for "card," post-kaard, which is feminine, with the word for "letter" or PaTr, which is a neutral adjective.
Now, let's try to send a package. In Hindi, "I would like to send this package to Italy" is muJHe yah parsal itlii BHejnaa hai.
muJHe yah parsal itlii BHejnaa hai
"Package" in Hindi is parsal.
Let's break it down by syllable and hear it once more: parsal
And parsal
So altogether, we have muJHe yah parsal itlii BHejnaa hai.
Now, the package requires a closer look, which we'll do in the next lesson.

Outro
