Survival Phrases Lesson 40
Using the Post Office in India Part 2
Today, we're going to work on getting your package one step closer to its intended destination.
In the previous lesson, we discussed the phrase, "I would like to send this package to Italy," which was muJHe yah parsal itlii BHejnaa hai.
muJHe yah parsal itlii BHejnaa hai
Let's break it down by syllable: muJHe yah parsal itlii BHejnaa hai
Again, the location is interchangeable.
When sending a package through, you will probably have to explain what's in the package. They may even ask you "What's in the package?" In Hindi, this is Is parsal mein kyaa hai?
Is parsal mein kyaa hai?
Let's break it down by syllable: Is parsal mein kyaa hai?
Now, let's hear it once again: Is parsal mein kyaa hai?
The first word, is, means "this."
Next is parsal mein, which is "in package."
Next is kyaa, which means "what," and finally, we have hai, which as you know is "is."
To recap here, we have is parsal mein kyaa hai? Literally, this means "What is there in the package?"
If you want to be sure to name all the things you are sending correctly, English is perfectly acceptable.
Another way in which they can ask you "What's in the package," is with is parsal ke anDar kyaa hai?
is parsal ke anDar kyaa hai?
This translates as "What is inside the package?"
Let’s break it down by syllable: is parsal ke anDar kyaa hai?
The first word, is, means "this."
Next is parsal, which is "package."
And then we have ke anDar, meaning "inside."
Let's break it down: ke anDar
ke anDar
And then, we have kyaa or "what", followed by hai or "is".
Altogether, we have is parsal ke anDar kyaa hai? This literally means "What's inside the package?"
Please remember that even in India, as in many other countries, there are some rules for things you can or cannot send. You can learn about these issues by visiting the Hindi Post website at www.indiapost.gov.in

Outro

Okay. To close out this lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrases, and you're responsible for shouting it out loud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so गुड लक! (guud Lak!), which means "good luck" in Hindi.
