(In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Hindi learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.)
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question ""Do you speak Hindi?"" In Hindi this is
B: क्या आप हिंदी बोलते हैं?
The first word in the question is
B: क्या
A: ""meaning do"" in English.
B: (Slow, by syllable) क्या
A: Listen again and repeat.
B: क्या

A: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is

To say ""no"", in a simple way, just say:
B: नहीं मै नहीं बोलती
A: Which is like saying No, I don’t speak in English. Let's hear it slowly.
B: (Slowly) नहीं मै नहीं बोलती
A: And one more time at normal speed:
B: नहीं मै नहीं बोलती
A: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
B: हाँ
A: meaning yes.
B: (Slow, by syllable) हाँ
A: Now repeat

A: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the {lang} for not at all. Say Yes, I speak well.

Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting India and someone asks you if you speak Hindi . You want to answer that you speak a little. Respond to the question.

A: Now you want to answer that you speak not at all Respond to the question.
B: क्या आप हिंदी बोलते हैं? (five seconds) नहीं, मै बिलकुल नहीं बोलती हूँ
A: You want to answer that you speak well. . Answer the speaker's question.
B: क्या आप हिंदी बोलते हैं? (five seconds) हाँ, मै अच्छे से बोलती हूँ
A: Now you want to answer that you speak . Respond to the question.
B: क्या आप हिंदी बोलते हैं? (five seconds) हाँ, मै थोड़ी बोलती हूँ
A: Now you want to ask someone if they speak Hindi. Ask the question
